Before I get into the new toys though, I'd like to say some things about the hobby and where I am beginning to feel I am going with it. With all the GW hate that has been flying around over the years and more so lately due to several unpopular decisions, it's been tough on me to keep inspired and keep going. In fact it has been pretty depressing in general.
In the more recent past, my main focus has been tournament gaming. Lately the Australian scene has been changing. More common are the people who go there to win, regardless of the enjoyment of the game or the hobby experience. More common (usually the same people) are people who try and look for every loophole they can find in the rules that they can exploit. It's a shame (well form my perspective anyway) that this is happening. The tournament scene had always been more focused on just having a bunch of fun games against new people for the most part.
So with those issues, combined with the fact that I can't really go to tournaments back in Aus while I'm living overseas means that I have arrived at a choice to change my hobby focus. I've decided to step back from tournament gaming for 40k. Instead, I'm going to focus on the other elements such as Apocalypse or Zone Mortalis games and leave tournament play to other systems. This choice was further reinforced by how much fun I had last weekend at an Apocalypse game back in Australia while I was visiting. I want to be able to enjoy my hobby, not have it cause me to second guess myself or make me upset.
I've also made another decision when it comes to 40k and what armies I collect. I'v'e decided to limit my armies to Space Marines, Grey Knights and Eldar. While all the other armies have some fantastic models (I was planning on doing a new Tau and Necron army recently), I want to start focussing on what I have now instead of starting new armies.
Anyway, back to our scheduled update!
The problem with all of the things I now have, is that I don't know where to start! So I've been procrastinating and doing other bits and pieces. I undercoated some marines and checked that all the parts for the new Forgeworld gear appears to be there.
Big pile o' resin
One piece of advice when cutting off all the extra resin, when doing it for the doors there are three feed lines from the bold to the top of each door. Each time I cut one of the side feeders off first, it caused the central one to break free with part of the door as well. Easily fixed with some super glue later, but still a bit annoying. So yeah, either use something other than clippers to cut those pieces or be a lot more careful than I was!
